History of Farmers

Farmers Insurance was co-founded by John Tyler and Thomas Leavey in 1922 in California. Tyler and Leavey both grew up with rural backgrounds and believed that farmers and ranchers, who had better driving records, should have lower insurance rates. After that, farmers all over the US were establishing their own insurance firms in order to have less expenses. By 1928, the first Farmers Automobile Inter-Insurance Exchange was formed in dowtown LA.

Farmers has greatly expanded since then. Today, the companies comprising the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies make up one of the largest insurers of vehicles, homes and small businesses. We serve more than 10 million households and more than 19 million individual policies across the 50 states. I am just one of over 48,000 Farmers Insurance agents.

Farmers is the leading company in catastrophe response as it acted on major disasters such as the 1989 San Francisco and 1994 Northridge earthquakes, the 1991 Oakland fire the 1999 Midwest tornadoes, Hurricane Rita in Texas in 2005 along with Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, the 2007 California wildfires and many more by providing coverage, donating money and setting up housing facilities for the people who unfortunately lost their homes.

Farmers agents are your friends; they aren’t looking to sell you insurance, they are looking to save you some money. Let them run a quote for you.
