Local Charity Spotlight: Family Promise of Bergen County

Most of the time, charities don’t get the love and respect they deserve for all the hard work they do for making the community better. Even if only 15 people read my blog, I still feel I should give these guys a shoutout for everything they have done for Bergen County families.

Family Promise, based out of Ridgewood, NJ, is the only organization in Bergen County that provides shelter and support to working families who become homeless. Over the years they have provided shelter for thousands of children and adults by setting the families up in apartments while they learn how to become self-sufficient. Family Promise of Bergen County (FPBC) teaches these families management skills and how to live on their own and be independent again.

Established in 1986, FPBC (formerly known as Interreligious Fellowship for the Homeless) has served thousands of homeless, hungry and needy people in Bergen County. Since 1991, the family Promise Walk-In Dinner Program provides 150 people in the community with food year round. 30 years later, FPBC continues to provide these services as well as many others.

FPBC is hosting two big events in the near future. The Hike or Bike is an event on Sunday, May 6th open to anyone who wants to run, walk, hike or bike a three mile or 15 mile trail. This event will feature music, games, prizes and refreshments. All money donated will go the families of the FPBC. There is also a golf outing at the Edgewood Country Club in River Vale on Tuesday, June 12th. This includes 18 holes of golf, lunch, dinner, cocktails, prizes and a silent auction. Again, the money donated will go to the families of the FPBC.
