Farmers Insurance FAQs

Let’s face it, insurance can be very confusing to people who didn’t take a test for it like I did (so 99% of people). I’d like to consider Farmers Insurance one of the most easier to follow, best service insurance companies out there but I understand there are still many question to be had about it. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions I receive from customers.

Auto Insurance FAQs

How do insurance companies assess my risk?
Insurance companies assess your risk by using a Risk Assessment Indicator, which is a numerical score based on credit report information. These Risk Assessment Indicators are highly predictive of future claim activities, helping insurance companies charge a rate that is appropriate for the risk of the insured individual.

What can I do to keep my Car insurance premiums low?
In order to keep your Car insurance premiums low, you could consider driving a safer, slightly older, or less valuable vehicle. If you have a high premium but don’t want to change vehicles, you can also opt for a higher deductible and be sure to keep your policy from lapsing to keep costs down. The best way however is to just maintain a safe driving record. No tickets, no violations, just drive smart and safe.

Home Insurance FAQs

What is a deductible?
A deductible is the amount you’re responsible for in the event of a covered loss. In most covered loss cases, you are responsible for any amounts up to your deductible level and your insurance would cover anything beyond that up to your coverage limit. The higher the deductible, the lower the premium – but the more you'll pay out of pocket in case of a claim. The lower the deductible, the higher the premium – but the less you'll pay if you have an insured claim.

A neighbor slips on my sidewalk and threatens to take me to court for damages. Does my homeowner policy protect me?
Yes. Homeowners insurance will pay for damages, if the accident is the result of your negligence. It will also pay for the legal costs of defending you against a claim. Also, the medical payments part of your Homeowners policy will cover medical expenses arising from an injury to a neighbor or guest. Your local Farmers agent can periodically review your policy limits with you when you are making coverage decisions.

What does Homeowners Insurance protect against exactly?
Homeowners protects against fire, lightning, tornadoes, wind storms, hail, explosions, smoke, vandalism and theft. It DOES NOT protect against earth movement, water, nuclear hazards, failure to make repairs, wear and tear, rust, fungi, government actions, power failure, animals or pests and war.

Running a Quote FAQs

Why do you order consumer reports for quotes?

Like the majority of insurance companies, we may review your credit-based insurance score to give you an accurate quote. These reports, along with other reports such as motor vehicle reports, driving history, and claim history could all be used as factors in determining your insurance rate. Whether you are getting a quote or purchasing a policy today, we will order some of these consumer reports.

Who should I include on my Auto Insurance Quote?
In addition to yourself, you should include anyone that drives your vehicles. This could be your spouse, children over 16 or other family members that do not have their own insurance, regardless if they share a residence with you or not.
