Hot Start for the Mets

16 games into the season and the Mets are absolutely killing it! Their 12-4 record is their best start in franchise history. In fact, the last two times they had a start like this was in 2015 and 1986...they went to the world series in both of those years. Obviously, it’s only mid-April and anything can happen from here but you can’t ignore the statistics. Mets fans have a lot to be hopeful for this season.

In their first 11 games the Mets were 10-1 with sweeps of the Phillies, Nationals and Marlins. In the third game of the series against the Nats, Yoenis Cespedes hit a go-ahead single to break a 5-5 tie in the 12th inning to secure the Mets’ 7th win of the season. That game also featured a grand slam by first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.

The series against the Marlins had even more heroics. In game 2, Asdrubal Cabrera hit a solo home run in the 8th inning (which was his second of the game) to tie it up at 6. In the 9th, Cespedes hit a two-run double to give the Mets the lead. In game 3, the Mets scored 4 runs in the 8th to take the game 4-1 and the sweep of the Marlins.

Sunday’s game against the Brewers featured a walk-off winner by Wilmer Flores in the bottom of the 9th inning along with a 11 strikeout day for pitcher Noah Syndergaard. They’ve dropped the first two games to the Nationals this week but let’s hope for a bounce back tonight!
