Ways to Save on Car Insurance

Car insurance may get a little pricey, but good news! There are many ways to save money on car insurance. Here are a few of them:

Shop Around
Don’t settle with the first quote you get. Each company’s price will be different. Even if you like what Progressive or Geico has to offer, you might as well keep running quotes because they are free! I heard that Farmers Insurance’s quotes are pretty cheap...not being biased or anything.

Make sure you have insurance before you buy the car
Sometimes if you are buying a used car or leasing the insurance may be just as much if not more than the car itself. Make sure you can afford the insurance before make any final decisions.

Raise Your Deductible
Your deductible is the money you pay before your insurance starts covering you. The higher you go with that, the lower your premium costs. Again however, make sure you have the money to do so.

Maintain a good credit history
Good credit plays a large role in how much your quote will be. Make sure you check your credit score to ensure it’s in good standings.

Bundle!
Many insurers (including myself) give you a discount if you have two or more types of insurance policies with their company. Some companies also offer a price break if you have been with them for a while. Loyalty will save you money!

Reduce insurance on older car
Why pay a lot of insurance on a car that is worth less than what you are paying. Don’t have insurance on a car if it’s worth less than ten times the insurance premium. You can look up how much your car is worth online for free.

Low Mileage Discounts
Some companies offer discounts for drivers who drive less than the average number of miles. Try using public transportation or carpooling to save you the miles, especially when leasing.

There are many other discounts that companies give out. Farmers gives out close to 40 discounts. Check out last month’s blog to see them:
